Dori (Burkina Faso)

Dori is the name of a city and of a comprehensive territory the same department in the north of the West African country of Burkina Faso. It is the capital of the Sahel region and the province Séno; the capital is divided into eight sectors, the territory of the municipality ( commune urbaine French ) includes 78 villages, together with the main town have 106 808 inhabitants.

The market of Dori is used to supply the populated among others, Tuareg and Fulani northern parts of the country.

During the 19th century Dori was the capital of the Fulani emirate Liptako. First Europeans who entered Dori, presumably the German explorer Heinrich Barth in 1853.

Dori is the seat of the Diocese of Dori.
