Doris Troy

Doris Troy (born Doris Elaine Higginsen ) ( born January 6, 1937 in Bronx, New York, † 16 February 2004 in Las Vegas, Nevada) was an American soul singer, also known by their fans as Mama Soul been.

She was a member of the halos and Jay & Dee. Their hit Just One Look reached # 10 in the U.S. Billboard charts in 1963. Besides, she was a backing vocalist for Solomon Burke, Chuck Jackson, Dionne Warwick, Pink Floyd, the Rolling Stones and Dusty Springfield.

Troy was the daughter of Dr. Randolph Higginsen, a preacher of the Pentecostal movement, and his wife Geraldine. Since her parents " godless " rejected music as rhythm and blues, she began her singing career in the church choir. As a background singer in New York's Apollo Theater, she was discovered by James Brown. Her life was brought to the stage in the performance Mama, I Want to Sing. The piece, which was written as a co -author of her sister Vy Higginsen, it brought 1,500 performances at the Heckscher Theater in Harlem.
