→ Main article: Old Port Authority Dortmund

For the inauguration of the Dortmund harbor at August 11, 1899 by Kaiser Wilhelm II, the Old Port Authority was established in the harbor. Based on designs of city architect Friedrich Kullrich a two-story building was built with large front tower on a hexagonal floor plan reminiscent not random at a lighthouse. This association is reinforced next to the outer form by a handling around the tower core. The tower is set up a " Kaiserzimmer " one whose outer parapet is carried by dolphins coat of arms of the cities of Dortmund and Emden.

Originally mounted as Turmbekrönung iron lattice construction was demolished in 1930 due to disrepair and in 1986 replaced by a reconstruction of galvanized steel, after the inside of the building had already been prepared again from 1982 to 1983. The ball on top of the tower is to be understood as a time ball, the tip serves as a flagpole. 1986 next to the Turmbekrönung also the entire exterior was restored.

Until 1962, the Old Port Authority was the seat of the Dortmunder Hafen AG. The building is used by the water police and for an exhibition on port and shipping in 2007.

The Old Harbour Master's Office is located on the Sunderweg in transition to channel road. The central location in the center of the canal harbor is further emphasized that the bridge over the city harbor converges directly to the tower and the road veering to the west just before the building. Due to the increased construction site the night illuminated building is visible from afar.

The Old Port Authority, its demolition was planned in the 1950s, is today one of the landmarks of the city and North Dortmund as well as the Port of Dortmund a part of the Route of Industrial Heritage.
