Doug Brown (ice hockey)

Douglas " Doug " Brown ( born June 12, 1964 in Southborough, Massachusetts ) is a retired American professional ice hockey player who in his playing days from 1982 to 2001 among others for the New Jersey Devils, Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League has played. His brother Greg was also a professional hockey player.

Career

Doug Brown began his career as a hockey player on the team of Boston College, where he was active from 1982 to 1986 in the National Collegiate Athletic Association. In his last two years of university, he was selected in each case in the second All- Star team of hockey East. Then the winger was taken on August 6, 1986 as a free agent by the New Jersey Devils under contract, for which he played in the next seven years in the National Hockey League, where he mainly for their farm team, the Maine Mariners of in his rookie year the American Hockey League, was on the ice. In the following years he was only sporadically used in New Jersey's new AHL farm team Utica Devils, since he was able to fight for a place in the NHL team.

The 1993/94 season spent Brown at the Pittsburgh Penguins. Then he played until his career end at the age of 37 years in the summer of 2001 at their league rival Detroit Red Wings. The Michigan team he managed in 1997 and 1998 equal to two times in a row winning the prestigious Stanley Cup.

Brown was selected in the NHL Expansion Draft in 1998 by the Nashville Predators, but sent a few weeks later in a barter back to the Red Wings. In exchange, Petr Sykora and a third-round suffrage was released to the Predators.

Internationally

For the U.S., Brown participated in the World Championships in 1986, 1989, 1991 and 2001, and at the Canada Cup in 1991 in part.
