Doug DeWitt

Doug DeWitt ( born September 14, 1961 as Douglas Anthony Ittaglio in Youngstown, Ohio ) is a former American professional boxer and former world champion of the WBO middleweight.

Boxing career

He began at the age of 15 years with the sport of boxing and won 35 of 39 amateur fights. At the age of 18 he became a professional and moved to Yonkers, New York. After 25 fights, including 22 wins and two draws, he won on 17 February 1984 by points win over Mike Tinley (14-1 ), the middleweight title of the television channel ESPN.

On August 30, 1985, he was defeated on points Robbie Sims ( 23-4 ), the half-brother of boxing legend Marvelous Marvin Hagler. Even against Milton McCrory (28-1 ) he suffered on July 13, 1986, a point defeat. On October 17, 1986, he boxed at the North American championship of the NABF, but Thomas Hearns ( 42-2 ) had to concede defeat.

Subsequent victories over Lenny LaPaglia ( 29-4 ), Tony Thornton ( 17-0 ) and Alberto González ( 17-5 ) he received on November 8, 1988 in Monte Carlo a world title chance against the WBA Sumbu Kalambay ( 45-3 however ), this subject early in the seventh round. He was then boxing coach and runs a boxing club named after him in Scarsdale, New York.
