Dougherty Island

The Dougherty or Keates Island was a phantom island in the South Pacific, which had been recorded in the 19th and 20th century on numerous cards. Sightings of the supposed island were Captain Dougherty of the James Stewart in 1841 (59 ° 20 ' S, 120 ° 20' W 59.333333333333 - 120.33333333333 ), by Captain Keates from Louise 1860 ( 59 ° 20 ' S, 120 ° 18' W reported -59.333333333333-120.3 ) and by Captain Stannard of the Cingalese 1886 (59 ° 21 ' S, 119 ° 7' W - 59.35 - 119.11666666667 ).

The cause of the triple erroneous sighting by Dougherty, Keates and Stannard fog banks and icebergs are accepted. None of the three captains told them to have entered the island Dougherty.
