Douglas Dick

Douglas M. Dick ( born November 20, 1920 in Charleston, West Virginia ) is a retired American actor and screenwriter.

Life and career

Douglas Dick gave in 1946 his film debut in the movie Searching Wind on the side of Robert Young, where he was equally a good supporting role. Mostly it was used in the following years Thrilern or Western, where he usually took second lead roles. He played his most famous role as the somewhat boring, but good-natured Kenneth Lawrence from Alfred Hitchcock's film chamber Rope on the side of James Stewart. After he had given his television debut beginning of the 1950s, he appeared almost exclusively there and had only rarely in movies. Douglas Dick played, among others, 1954-1955, the main role in the series Waterfront. As his acting career lost a few years later to success, he also wrote several screenplays for episodic television shows.

In 1971, Dick moved back to about 70 film and television appearances completely out of the film business. From then on, he worked as a psychologist, but remained a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. With the actress and screenwriter Peggy Chandler (1923-2001) he was married from 1963 until her death. Before a marriage with Ronnie Cowan had been divorced in 1960.
