The Douglas Holding AG is a German, unlisted until December 11, 2012 at the MDAX, retail group, which is represented in the perfumery industry, bookstores, jewelry, fashion and confectionery. The largest distribution lines, Douglas ( the highest turnover of Douglas Holding AG), the retail book trade Thalia bookstores, Christian Jewelers ( jewelry and watches) and AppelrathCüpper ( women's fashion ), and confectionery stores ( confectionery).

History

The roots of the company date back to the year 1821, when Hamburg in the perfume and soap factory JS Douglas Söhne was founded. 1863 opened the first Christian branch and in 1910 the first Douglas perfumery in Hamburg.

The Hussel confectionery store operations GmbH was founded in 1949 and in 1962 converted into a corporation. In 1969, the acquisition of Perfumery Douglas, who (from 1976: Hussel Holding AG) the most important pillar of the company was. Since 1989, the company bears the name of Douglas Holding AG.

Douglas, in 1995, partly in 2005 and completely the eleven branches of Pohland menswear and sold them in September 2007 at the Munich-based industrial holding company Aurelius AG.

On March 11, 2014 Douglas announced the Hagen confectionery specialist Hussel to EMERAM Capital Partners to sell. A purchase agreement was signed on 06 March. The transaction is still subject to antitrust approval.

Ownership

Since July 2013, the company is wholly owned by the U.S. financial investor Advent International and is no longer listed.

The Parfumerie Douglas GmbH is a 100 % subsidiary of Douglas Holding AG. The 1200 perfumeries in 22 countries generated more than 14,000 employees in fiscal year 2009/10 revenue of 1.8695 billion euros. The perfumeries maintain market leadership in Europe.
