Region

Douméga is a rural municipality in the Department Tibiri in Niger.

Geography

The municipality borders the neighboring state of Nigeria. North of Douméga lies the community Tibiri, south and west of the town Guéchémé. The three places are all located on Wadi Dallol Maouri, which flows into the River Niger, and at the transition of the Sahel to the fertile Great landscape Sudan. History

Douméga was founded by Magorawa, a subgroup of the Hausa. The name comes from the word Douméga Douma, which means " calabash tree". The traditional leader in the neighboring Tibiri takes a regional leadership position with him the permission is denied to the traditional head of Douméga. Economy and infrastructure

The population suffers from chronic malnutrition. The local grain production has low income and many residents lack the financial means to buy the adequate existing in the markets grain.
