Dov Bar-Nir

Dov Bar - Nir (birth name: Bernard Zilbershitz; Hebrew דב בר - ניר; born December 3, 1911 in Brussels; † 7 May 2000) was an Israeli politician who was from 1949 to 1951 member of the first Knesset.

Life

After attending schools in Brussels Bar - Nir holds a degree in Social Sciences at the University of Strasbourg, where he graduated with a doctorate. During this time, he was one of the founders of the socialist- Zionist Hashomer Hatzair scouting organization in Belgium. After his immigration ( aliyah ) into the League of Nations Mandate of Palestine in 1932, he was until 1956 a member of Kibbutz Ain Hahoresh and active in the Socialist League.

Bar - Nir, who was from 1946 to 1948 Hashomer Hatzair secretary, was elected after the creation of Israel on 14 February 1949, a member of the first Knesset and heard this until the end of its term on 20 August 1951. During his membership of Parliament he was a member of several Knesset committees and 1950 for some time Hashomer Hatzair representatives of the United States.

After retiring from the Knesset from 1951 to 1953 he was first secretary of the Central Committee of Mapam, the United Workers' Party, and later from 1957 to 1960 secretary of the World Union of Mapam. He also belonged to a member of the editorial board of the monthly magazine New Outlook.

Bar - Nir has published numerous articles in newspapers such as Maariw and Dawar and also worked as a columnist for the newspaper Al haMischmar and Sde Iyun. He has also written several books including:
