Dover is a municipality in the state of Vermont in the United States with 1,124 inhabitants ( according to the census of 2010 ). Located in the highlands of the Green Mountains is the core settlement of West Dover, at the foot of the 1,093 m high Mount Snow, with its ski resorts and the airfield Mount Snow Airport since the 1950s, a tourist center of the area.

Inhabited from 1779 and originally part of the 1780 proclaimed Wardsboro Town, the southern part of the municipality on 30 October 1810, appointed an independent Town and received, after many proposals such as Freedom and Liberty, by the citizens of the name Dover. The reason for the naming is not known; a frequently -to-read story that Town would have been named after the dog of the mayor, who would have been sorry for the multitude of pathetic name suggestions, but is clearly a legend.

Since the beginning of the 20th century, the rural town gradually developed into a resort. The decline of the economy through the global economic crisis of 1929 led in the Town Dover to a significant loss of jobs and residents; from the original three population centers in West Dover, East Dover and Dover were two: the settlement Dover went out. Missing innovations could remain the area on the technical levels of 1930. All schools were closed because any more children lived in the district for which they would have been required.

1953 acquired Walter Schoen servant a ski lodge at Mount Snow and developed it systematically to a winter sports area of. This was invigorating effect on the two remaining settlements, particularly on the nearer West Dover in a short time. A new road, the Vermont State Route 100, and an airfield opened up the area for tourists. Today the area is a busy tourist center with a variety of restaurants, hotels and events.

The Town of Dover is the headwaters of the Rock River and the Nordastes of Deerfield River.

Since 1957, Dover has again a public elementary school, the Dover Elementary School. Furthermore, a Baptist church and a branch of the United Church of Christ are located in the two villages. Since 1975 there is also a Historical Society, particularly the preservation of the relic of the local history dedicated to winter sports before development.
