DR Class E 251

The electric locomotives of the DR series E 251 (1970: 251, as of 1992: Class 171 ) conformity because of their different technical characteristics with respect to the current system is not the standard of Lokparks the Deutsche Reichsbahn and later the DB AG. They were only on the route of Blankenburg (Harz ) - Chorzów ( Rübelandbahn ) used. Since this route has steep inclines, more desirable connection would have been very costly to the railway grid for stand-alone operation, the German Reichsbahn in 1965 the route different from the usual German rail power supply (15 kV 16 ⅔ Hz) electrified with the power system 25 kV 50 Hz. The 15 CoCo locomotives were supplied by the locomotive Electrical works " Hans Beimler " Hennig village and out at the Reichsbahn E 251001-015.

Use

Of the previous 15 locomotives 11 pieces up to December 2004 were used in the transportation of goods by Rübelandbahn. They were stationed until then Bw Blankenburg. The passenger with the BR 171 was closed in 2000 because the Federal Railway Authority for the operation of passenger trains the installation of a door control ( TB0 ) called. A solution for TB0 was not prepared for cost reasons. Also a Sifa was installed in these vehicles until 1998, as prescribed in the steep section operating Beimann first made this unnecessary.

Up to 171 001 to 171 002, which were returned to their original state and are listed buildings, nearly all locomotives were transferred to the former Bw Zwickau, where they waited for their continued operation in South East Europe. Since the tests were unsuccessful with 171 008 on the ground, behind presented in Zwickau locomotives were scrapped in 2011.

The operation of the electrified with 25 kV overhead line main line of the series was indeed required from noise and environmental reasons, and initially continued in 2004 by locomotives of the series 185 and 189. However, a switch to diesel locomotives of the BR 233 and BR 241 Railion and the " Blue Tiger " was completed in 2005. This was preceded by the award of ⅔ of transport services to the Osthavelländische Railway (now hvle ). A provision of electric locomotives by Railion was no longer economically viable.

The use of DB locomotives of the BR 233 and BR 241 ended March 31, 2006, because let Fels-Werke as a customer all services now since April 1, 2006 with the hvle and drive their locomotives.

Color Schemes

Originally, all fifteen machines were painted green. From the mid- 1970s they were claret splashed with a wide ivory trim. This was carried out substantially narrower later on the side walls. After the transition to the German Bahn AG initially found a painting in oriental red, then: traffic instead. The machines 171 001 and 171 002 are now as museum locomotives to meet again in green livery with red bogies.

Mechanical Part

Externally, the six-axle locomotives are strongly oriented to the four-axis of the DR series E 11 and E 42 DR series. The frame and the structure is a welded construction. The cross beams at the respective ends include both the train and draw gear as well as the permanently installed snowplow. The locomotive body is supported by four bearings in spring pots coil springs on the bogies. In even the bogie wheel sets are cushioned by leaf springs and rubber elements. To improve the running properties in tight curves, there is a compensating coupling between the bogies. In addition, a bogie is floating and can yield several cm to the side. The axes, especially the central axes are strongly laterally sliding. Since the maximum speed of 80 km / h lower than in the sister series 211 and 242, Tatzlagerantriebe were used.

Electrical Section

The main transformer is designed as an oil transformer with forced oil circulation and forced ventilation. The high- voltage-switching mechanism has 34 permanent speed steps. The six harmonic current series-wound motors are fed by two silicon rectifiers. All machines have an electric resistance brake. The productivity per hour 3660 kW, the starting tractive effort 373 kN.

The filament voltage for the wagon train and thus differs from ordinary else in Germany, but according to the international standards in 1500 volts at 50 hertz.

Whereabouts

The E 251 001 and 002 are now designated museum locomotives and are in Blankenburg. Both locomotives are listed buildings, which is also the reason for remaining in Blankenburg. 171 012 came into the custody of the Thuringian Railway Association. There you will take care of the maintenance of the locomotive, which will be presented at various festivals. All other locomotives of Class 171 were transferred to resolution of the feed stock by the former Railion Germany AG in the former Bw Zwickau. The Lokzug (consisting of 171 011, 171 009, 171 003, 171 008, 171 004, 171 014, 171 013 and 171 005) arrived on 13 April 2005 in Halle, where he on 21 April 2005 continue to Zwickau went. On February 9, 2006 171 008 from Zwickau came to Dresden - Friedrichstadt, where the underfloor lathe their wheel sets have been processed. Subsequently, it was worn to Regensburg port and came to Romania. There she is let to Logistic Center Bulgaria Branch. Also, the other behind presented in Zwickau machine was intended for this fate, they should be used in Romania also at a Railion subsidiary. 2010 behind presented in Zwickau vehicles have been sold, however, to a scrap dealer in aspen grove. The locomotives 171005-007, 009, 010, 013 and 015 were disassembled in Blankenburg and aspen grove.
