Drake Thadzi

Drake Thadzi is a former boxer in the light heavyweight, who was 1998 World Champion IBO Association on 19 October 1996 until August 2, 1998 World Champion of the Association IBC and 14 May 1997 to 12 December.

Career

Amateur career

Thadzi 1980 amateur. His biggest success was the participation in the Summer Olympics in 1984. However, he lost in the second round unanimously against the Algerian Mustapha Moussa, who later won the bronze medal.

Professional career

1995 Thadzi was mandatory challenger of the reigning world champion of the WBA and IBF Virgil Hill. Hill won the fight by unanimous decision and retained his title.

On 14 May 1997 Thadzi fought against the US- American James Toney for the vacant IBO title and could win this by a majority decision.

In December 1998, he fought against the previously undefeated Poland Dariusz Michalczewski who owned the world title of the WBO. Thadzi lost by TKO in the ninth round.
