Drasenhofen

Drasenhofen is a municipality with 1120 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the Mistelbach district in Lower Austria.

Geography

Drasenhofen is located in the northernmost part of the wine district in Lower Austria.

There is an international border crossing in the course of Brünnerstraße (B 7 / e 461 ) for seven kilometers northern city of Mikulov ( Mikulov ) in the Czech Republic. The area of ​​the municipality covers 35.19 square kilometers. 10.55 percent of the area is forested.

Passing through the municipality of St. James since 2010 signposted wine district, the Holy Hill (Svaty kopeček u Mikulova ) in the South Moravian town of Mikulov coming to Krems on the Danube leads and is part of the Via Francigena, Via Slavica.

History

Drasenhofen was first mentioned in 1190 under the standard until the 16th century the name Taisenhof. In the core Austrian state of Lower Austria lying the place told the eventful history of Austria.

From the 14th century the family of Pécs goods acquired the first goods in Steinebrunn. The noble family rose to become the most powerful lords of the northern wine district in the late Middle Ages.

Characteristic of the place and its history is the Brno road leading from Vienna to Brno Drasenhofen. Late May 1945, was the site first stop in Austria for the Brno death march, which began on 31 May 1945 and in the German citizens of Brno were driven out of their city. Thousands did not survive.

Population Development

According to the results of the 2001 census, there were 1143 inhabitants. In 1991, the municipality had 1340 inhabitants, 1511 and 1981 in 1971, 1698 inhabitants.

Policy

Mayor of the municipality is Reinhard Künzl, office manager Anneliese Florian. In the council there at the 2000 election with a total of 19 seats following distribution of seats: 18 ÖVP, SPÖ 1, no other seats. In the 2010 election, no change in the distribution of seats is revealed.

Museums

Structures

Near the village of Klein Schweinbarth finds the Südmährenkreuz as a memorial to expelled from Moravia Germans after the Second World War.

Regular events

The Kellergasse of Drasenhofen runs along a route piece of the old imperial road to Brno. Since 2005, a festival is celebrated here with historical costumes in August, which is dedicated to the memory of the time of Emperor street and famous people passing through.
