Drax Group ( Drax Power, Ltd.) is an energy company from the UK. The company is listed on the FTSE to the London Stock Exchange, ISIN GB00B1VNSX38. The company operates the Drax power station in the UK.

In particular, one of the company's coal-fired power plant in Selby, North Yorkshire.

History

The first power plant complex was built in 1974. In November 1999, the U.S. company AES Corporation bought the company Drax of the National Power for 1.87 billion pounds. Due to financial difficulties on suitable AES Drax the company in August 2003 to his lender. After failed sales calls with various international energy companies ( BHP Billiton, International Power, RWE and E.ON ) Drax Power Ltd, the company was floated on the London Stock Exchange on 15 December 2005.

Corporate criticism because of environmental pollution

2005 Drax produced 20.8 million tons of carbon dioxide. The Times reported that emissions of carbon dioxide was more than that which would produce 103 other nations. On 31 August 2006, 600 people participated in a protest against carbon dioxide emissions of the power plant part ( " ReclaimPower "). 29 people were killed in the protest, which was coordinated by the organization Camp for Climate Action, were arrested. The company, however, is now striving to reduce the environmental impact. Since September 2007, to include new more efficient turbines in use, which were supplied by Siemens Power Generation (PG).
