Drew Struzan

Drew Struzan ( born in 1947 in Portland, Oregon) is an American artist and illustrator who was best known for his movie posters.

Struzan grew up in poverty in Portland. Although he suffered from dyslexia at the dyslexia, he made it the only one of his family who successfully complete high school. In 1965 he began his training as illustrator at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, one of the leading design schools around the world. There he met his future wife, Dylan, with whom he has a son.

After successfully graduating from college, he began working as a designer for Pacific Eye and Ear. There, he designed covers for various music albums. Among other things, he created the cover for the album Black Sabbath Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Alice Cooper Welcome to My Nightmare.

In 1975, he began with the design of movie posters. First, he designed posters for only several B-movies, but 1977 finally came his big break when he was allowed to design the poster for Star Wars. Thanks to this success other movie studios were aware of him and he was now more likely to create the job posters. In all, he designed over 150 movie posters, including, among others, the posters for the Indiana Jones movies, the Star Wars series, for Police Academy and for many others.
