Driva in Oppdal

The Driva is a Norwegian river in Sør -Trøndelag and Møre og Romsdal.

The Driva has its origins in Dovre. From there it flows in a northerly direction through the Drivdal to Oppdal. There, the river turns to the west. In the lower reaches it flows through the Sunndal and finally reaches the Sunndalsfjord, the eastern end of Tingvoll Fjord, and empties into the sea at Sunndalsøra. The Driva is 135 km long. The catchment area covers 2493 km ².

The main tributaries are Åmotselva, Vinstra, Alma, Dørreselva, Festa, Dindøla, Vindola, Grøvu and Grøa.

By the River hydroelectric power plant Driva Kraftverk located in the municipality in Sunndal Sunndal. It was completed in 1973 and has an installed capacity of 71 MW. The associated reservoir forms the northerly regulated lake Gjevillvatnet.

The Driva was formerly a well-known salmon river. Due to the infestation of the fish with the ectoparasite Gyrodactylus salaris the salmon population has been decimated. There are efforts to obtain the fish stocks free of parasites.
