Rivière du Lievre in Mont- Laurier

The Rivière du Lievre (English You Lievre River) is a left tributary of the Ottawa River in the Western Canadian province of Quebec.

It has its origin in the Lac Orthes in the Laurentian Mountains. It flows east from Réservoir Mitchinamecus in a southerly direction and empties in Masson -Angers into the Ottawa River. The river has a length of 330 miles and drains an area of 10,400 km ². The river name is derived from the French word for " rabbit" from.

  • Notre- Dame-de- Pontmain
  • Notre -Dame- du- Laus
  • Val -des- Bois
  • Notre -Dame-de -la- Salette
  • Glen Almond ( L'Ange - Gardien municipality )
  • Buckingham, now part of Gatineau

Earlier, the river was used for rafts of logs to the sawmills at the river mouth. In 1928 a paper mill was built at the mouth of the river Rivière du Lievre.

Hydropower plants

There are a number of hydroelectric power plants along the river.

Boralex operates on the Rivière du Lievre at the Barrage MacLaren at Buckingham a Laufwasserkraftwerk ( ⊙ 45.589507-75.422142 ). It has an installed capacity of 10 MW at a drop height of 9.6 m. The plant from 1913 was renewed in 1995.
