Dulce Chacón

Dulce Chacón ( born June 3, 1954 in Zafra, Badajoz province, † December 3, 2003 in Madrid) was a Spanish writer.

Although she came from a conservative family, she later followed more left-wing ideals. So they made an effort to put the archives of executions under General Franco into the public consciousness and stood against the Iraq war.

Her father died when she was twelve years old. The mother moved the family to Madrid, and Dulce Chacón visited together with her twin sister, a boarding school. To escape these changes in her life, she began to write poetry. During her youth she read Paul Celan, Rainer Maria Rilke, César Vallejo and José Angel Valente; these authors had a strong influence on her personal style.

In October 2003, an advanced cancer was diagnosed in Dulce Chacón. She died on 3 December of the same year, leaving behind her husband and two sons.
