Dunasziget

Dunasziget is a municipality in Hungary with a population of 1,457 and is located in the Győr- Moson -Sopron.

Geography

The municipality is located in the small area Mosonmagyaróvár, part of Győr- Moson -Sopron. It is located 13 km from the city Mosonmagyaróvár and the local junction of the M1 motorway. Dunansziget is located on the Little Rye Island, which extends to 2 km from the Slovak border, which leads thence along the main arm of the Danube. The triangle with the Austrian border is just 20 km away, the Slovakian capital Bratislava is located 40 km distance and 80 km from Vienna.

History

The community part of Dunasziget was first mentioned in the 18th century under the name Cikolasziget, Doborgazsziget and Sérfenyősziget. During a flood in 1954 the population of Dunasziget had to be evacuated. By flooding large parts of the community were destroyed and had to be rebuilt. In 1969, these three villages were united under the name Dunasziget.

It is twinned with the town of Forst inning in Upper Bavaria.

Economy

The economy in Dunasziget is characterized by many small farms but also by some tourism businesses, such as pensions, canoe rentals and tent sites.

Education

In Dunasziget there is a kindergarten and a primary school. Founded in the 19th century Timaffy - Endre Elementary School is currently attended by 66 students, which are divided into 8 classes .. The financing of the school is done by the Kolping Society.
