Duncan is a country town in the north of Jamaica. The town is located in County Cornwall in Trelawny Parish. In 2010, Duncan had a population of 1,820 people
Ethnology
The name Duncan received the city in 1784. Was named after Peter Duncan, former owners of the land on which the town is built.
Geography
Duncan lies on a ridge about 2 kilometers south of the coast and the Bay Duncan Bay. The average altitude of the village is 140 meters above the sea level. The difference in height is about 100 meters. In the immediate neighborhood are in the west, the two towns Carey Park, 110 meters above sea level and Johnston Pen at a height of 75 meters. The region is heavily forested back to the coast, but the land was cultivated in the south of the town mostly. At the coast, located in Duncans Bay, the fishing Sands Bay. The ridge rises from the coast to up to 278 meters above the sea level.
Infrastructure
Duncan is located on the A1 freeway which runs east-west direction. The higher situated Freeway separates the place from which, lying at the Duncan Bay, fishing Sands Bay. The settlements are connected by subways.
From Freeway A1 forth branches, running in a northerly direction, the freeway B10, which begins in Duncans and leads over to Falmouth to Montego Bay
Economy
The inhabitants live mainly from agriculture and tourism. In the village there are several hotels and apartments.
