Dunja Vejzović
Dunja Vejzovic ( born October 20, 1943 in Zagreb) is an opera singer in the vocal range mezzo- soprano.
Life and artistic work
The artist lived for several years in Africa, where her father worked for the UN. In her hometown, she studied both graphic ( art academy ) and singing ( Academy of Music) at Marija Borčić. They also attended master classes in Salzburg and Weimar. Your vocal studies she deepened for a year at the University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart. At the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb began in 1969 her stage career. Two years later she joined the ensemble at the opera of Nürnberg. There they took over once the big games in their field: Carmen in Carmen, Venus in Tannhäuser, Azucena in Il trovatore, Amneris in Aida, Dalila in Samson et Dalila, to name just a few of the many. In 1978 she went to the opera of Frankfurt / Main and was confirmed a year later as a freelance artist.
Her international career began in 1978 at the Bayreuth Festival, where she excelled in the role of Kundry during three hard seasons in Parsifal. Herbert von Karajan was Dunja Vejzovic win for the Salzburg Festival, the 1980, 1981 and 1984. There she sang Kundry in Parsifal and Lohengrin Ortrud in. For the plate recording of Parsifal, the singer was awarded the Prix Fanny Heldy. Dunja Vejzovic sang at all prestigious opera stages of the world, in Rome, Milan, New York, Barcelona, Paris, London, etc. She has worked with the greatest conductors of the time, such as Herbert von Karajan, Carlos Kleiber, Christoph Eschenbach, Claudio Abbado, Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta and Eugen Jochum.
Besides opera singer Anja Silja Dunja Vejzovic worked as a guest singer in the documentary film The Power of Emotion (1983 ) with.
Parallel to own opera and concert activities operated ( e) Dunja Vejzovic as a singing teacher. After professorships in Graz and Zagreb she took the chair at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart. Many of her students are now themselves known personalities in the world of opera, such as: Christina Landshamer, Evelin Novak and Kresimir Strazanac. The artist holds master classes and is a jury member of several international singing competitions.
In 2004, she published a monograph (including CD ) with documentation of her stage and concert performances.
Her the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon was awarded for her work on October 20, 2010.
