Dunmail Raise

Dunmail Raise

K

Dunmail Raise is a mountain pass in the Lake District in Cumbria, England. With 238 m of the pass is the highest point of the A591 from Keswick to Kendal south of Thirlmere and north of Grasmere.

To the east of the pass is the Helvellyn and Fairfield, to the west is the high raise.

At the pass is a large cairn, which is considered the grave of Dunmail, the last king of Cumbria, and so the name of the passport says. The grave is to be the historical border between Cumbria and Westmorland, although there is no evidence.
