Durrës County

The Qark Durres (Albanian Qarku i Durresit ) is one of twelve Qarks in Albania. It is located in central Albania and has an area of 766 km ². According to 2011 census, it has 265 330 inhabitants; INSTAT stated for 2009 or 310 442 inhabitants, while the Qarkverwaltung for the same year aufführte even 414 892 inhabitants. The capital is Durrës.

Geography

The Qark Durres consists of the two districts Durrës and Kruja. In the west, the Adriatic Sea, it forms about 61.8 km, the natural border. East of the coastal plain at Kruja rises a mountain range. Between the two circles of Qarks is a small range of hills that rises up to 200 meters and the catchment areas of the rivers Ishëm (east) and ores (west) separates extends. The hills in the north end of the Cape Rodon. All traffic between the two circuits via Vora in Tirana District, where a nearly flat passage between the hills there.

North of the Qarks is the Qark Lezha, Dibra Qark in eastern and south of Tirana County.

Population

In 2009, the Statistical Office of Albania ( Alb. Instituti i Statistikës ) recorded 310 442 inhabitants for the Qark Durres. A greater religious majority does not exist. Sunni, Bektashi, Albanian Orthodox, Roman Catholic and atheists have more or less the same number of followers. A more detailed collection of data on religion since 1989 not anyway, but is carried out again in the fall of 2011.

Economy and Transport

Both circles of Qarks count on the economic region Tirana - Durres, the commercial center of the country in which also the main port of the country ( Durres ) and the only international airport can be found ( in the border area of Kruja Tirana ). In the whole metropolitan area, more than a third of the population of Albania.

Politics and Administration

The Qark Council ( Alb. Këshilli i Qarkut ) based in the port city of Durres has 46 members. The Democratic Party (PD ) forms the majority and, with Eglantina Begteshi the Council President, currently the country's only woman in such an office.

The Qark provides 13 deputies out of a total of 140 for the 2009 and 2013 legislative sessions beginning of the Albanian Parliament
