History

BBL license of Bayer Giants Leverkusen was founded as Giants Dusseldorf for the season 2008/ 09 taken over.

As the main sponsor of the Leverkusen team (Bayer), had significantly reduced its commitment, decided the lead after no financing alternatives in Leverkusen could be found, a transfer of the Bundesliga license to Dusseldorf, so anyway to the continued existence of league basketball in the region guarantee. After the descent 2010/2011, the Giants start to the 2011/2012 season in the second-rate ProA. Despite the decline, the Gloria Hotels & Resorts extended their sponsorship. On August 20, 2013, Dusseldorf Baskets was also withdrawn the license for the ProA. The Association shall have breached license conditions, also was known afterwards that the conditions for the grant of the license were not available. This provides the Dusseldorf Baskets laid the first losers of the 2013/14 season in the second basketball league after the club accepted the license revocation. In March 2014, the Dusseldorf Baskets went bankrupt.
