Dutch colonisation of the Guianas

Dutch Guiana (Dutch Nederlands Guiana or Dutch Guiana ) was the collective name for Dutch colonies on the coast of Guiana. After Napoleon was finally defeated in 1815 in Waterloo, Dutch Guiana was divided in Suriname, which remained a Dutch colony, and Guyana, which was a British colony. This was one of three "lost" colonies together with the Cape Colony and Ceylon. In exchange for the lost territories, the United Kingdom of the Netherlands from the former Batavian Republic, the Austrian Netherlands and the Prince-Bishopric of Liège was formed.
