Dynna stone

It is a 2.8 -meter-high plate of red sandstone with a runic inscription on one edge and engravings on the image, roughly triangular front. The stone is at the base of 54 cm wide and 18 cm thick. The images in Ringerikestil among the first Christian of the visual arts in Norway. They point to a connection with Scotland, where there are similar stones.

The representation

The coarse images provide a crib, the child Jesus, the Star of Bethlehem and the three wise men on horseback dar. (Matthew 2 verse 1-12). Through a palmette frieze separated, is located below the main scene - placed crosswise reasons of space. The birth cave is rather inspired by the illustrations of Nordic Stones,

The runic inscription

The runic text is written in the Younger Futhark and reads:

The originating from the top of a large hill grave stone was purchased in 1879 by the Museum and is located in Oslo Universitetets Oldsaksamling.
