Dystopia (Band)

Dystopia (German: dystopia ) was a sludge band from Orange County, California.

Band History

Dystopia founded in 1991 in the line-up Dan Kaufman ( vocals), Matt " Mauz " Parrillo (guitar), Todd Kiessling ( bass) and Dino Sommese (drums) in Orange County ( California). In 1992, a first demo. With Dan Kaufman, the group then played a song for two split EPs. It was not until 1993 Kaufman got out and Parrillo took over the vocals, these recordings were released on Misanthropic Records and Life Is Abuse. The vinyl EP Human = Garbage was released in 1994 with five new songs and Parrillo on vocals. The CD version came to a sort of best -of, since you pressed all the recordings released to date with the CD. The first recordings, the band went on tour and played several shows in the United States. It appeared more EPs, the group goes twice on tour in Europe.

1997 moved to Matt " Mauz " Parrillo and Dino Sommese about to Oakland. Was published in 1999 with The Aftermath another compilation of old recordings. The early 2000s, the group decides to go separate ways. Between 2004 and 2005 Dystopia recorded their final album, which was not published until 2008.

Music style

The band describes itself as a doom- ridden, metal - laced, down- tuned punk with a "love earth - hate people " philosophy (English about: Doom - ridden, metal penetrated, down tuned punk with a " love the earth - hate people "philosophy ). The lyrics to 1997 are therefore kept very sarcastic and usually thematize political contexts. Especially on the first few albums can, however, find personal lyrics. The later albums thematize rather human relationships.

Musically, the group moves in the sludge genre, that is, the music is very slow and includes bonds from the Doom Metal. Especially in the beginning also influences the pilot and Crustcores are recognizable, but later a more death-metal - like sound gave way.
