E. V. Thompson

Ernest Victor Thompson, MBE (* July 14, 1931 in London, England; † July 19, 2012 in Launceston, Cornwall), was a British writer.

Life and work

Ernest Victor Thompson was born in London. He has no academic training and served for nine years in the Royal Navy. He was employed by the police in Bristol and security chief at EV Thompson at Launceston this home in Rhodesia. In 1970 he moved to Cornwall in order to concentrate on writing. Until his first novel he wrote almost 400 short stories.

With Chase the Wind Thompson debuted in 1977 as a writer. He won for the novel, the award for best historical novel of the year, with a prize money of 7000 pounds. Besides guaranteeing that the novel is laid in the United States, the novel was eventually translated into 14 languages, including into German. It was published in 1986 under the title game as the Moor in Ullstein. In total, he wrote over 35 years of history 39 novels, which have sold about 5 million copies worldwide.

July 19, 2012 Thompson died at the age of 81 years at his home in Launceston. He left behind his wife and two sons together.
