Earl of Clanbrassil

Earl of Clanbrassil was a title of nobility, which was presented twice in the Peerage of Ireland, both times of the Hamilton family.

History

On May 4, 1622 Sir James Hamilton was given the title Viscount Claneboye ( in the County Down ) awarded in the Peerage of Ireland. He was succeeded by his only son James Hamilton as 2nd Viscount Claneboye, also has this on June 7, 1647 1st Earl of Clanbrassil ( in County Armagh ). After the death of his only son Henry Hamilton, 2nd Earl of Clanbrassil in 1675, the title became extinct for the first time.

On 13 May 1719 James Hamilton Baron Claneboye ( in the County Down) and Viscount of the City of Limerick (usually abbreviated to Viscount of Limerick ) in the Peerage of Ireland. He was also honored on November 24, 1756 in addition to the title Earl of Clanbrassil ( in County Armagh ), who was also represented in the Irish peerage. He was the great-great grandson of William Hamilton, the brother of the first Viscount Claneboye. After the death of his son James Hamilton, 2nd Earl of Clanbrassil, in 1798, the two titles became extinct again.

The title Claneboye however, was restored in 1800, when the Ururgroßnichte of the first Viscount Claneboye, Dorcas Lady Blackwood was made the Baroness Dufferin and Claneboye. The title of Clanbrassil was restored in 1821, when Robert Jocelyn, 3rd Earl of Roden was appointed Baron Clanbrassil in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. He was the grandson of Lady Anne Hamilton, sister of the second and last Earl of Clanbrassil (second award ).
