Earl of Kimberley

Earl of Kimberley is a British hereditary title of nobility in the Peerage of the United Kingdom, named after the town of Kimberley, Norfolk, which is supported by the family Wodehouse.

Award

The title was awarded in 1866 to the well-known liberal politician John Wodehouse, 3rd Baron Wodehouse. This had previously been Lord Lieutenant of Ireland. In the following years he had held a number of other government positions, he was among other things, Lord Privy Seal and Minister for Foreign Affairs.

Subordinate title

The Earl of Kimberley leads the subordinate title of Baron Wodehouse of Kimberley in Norfolk, which is guided by the heirs of each title as a courtesy title. This title, which belongs to the Peerage of Great Britain, in 1797 for Sir John Wodehouse, 6th Baronet, created. The Baron was a prominent MP in the House of Commons.

Another title

Furthermore, the Earl of Kimberley holds the title of baronet of Wilberhall in the county of Norfolk, which to the Baronetage of England. This was in 1611 awarded to Philip Woodhouse, also a member of parliament.
