Earl of Northesk

Earl of Northesk is a hereditary British title of nobility of the Carnegie family in the Peerage of Scotland. The title derives from the northern of two rivers named Esk in Angus, Scotland, from.

Ancestral home of the family is Ethie Castle in Arbroath.

Award of the degree

The title Earl of Northesk 1662 was awarded to John Carnegie. With regard to the order of precedence and seniority of the title but is treated by virtue of the explicit scheme as if it had been created in 1647, thus ranks up there, for example, before 1660 created title of Earl of Dundee.

His oldest brother David Carnegie was from 1633 awarded the title Earl of Southesk.

Subordinate title

The subsidiary title of the earldom are: Lord Rose Hill and Lord Eglismauldie, both also in the Peerage of Scotland.
