Early is a town in Brown County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.

Geography

The city is located in the center of the county, near the geographic center of Texas, at the junction of U.S. Highway 67 with U.S. Highway 84

History

The first settler was Welcome W. Chandler, who settled here in 1850. In his house the first post office was opened in 1858. 1928 donated Walter U. Early, a prosecutor, land for construction of several schools and in the following years attracted more and more families in the vicinity of these schools. 1942, the first church was built and on December 15, 1951 received the right place city with a population of 600.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 2,588 people in 980 households and 752 families. The population density was 388.8 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 94.17 % White, 1.00 % African American, 0.35 % Native American, 0.58 % Asian, 0.04 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 3.25 % from other ethnic groups. Approximately 0.62% were of mixed descent, and 9.12% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 980 households 39.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 62.0 % were married couples living together. 11.7% were single mothers and 23.2% were non-families. 20.5 % of all households were single-person households, and 10.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.64 and the average family size amounted to 3.01.

29.3% of the population were under 18 years old, 7.3 % from 18 to 24, 27.3 % 25-44, 21.9% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 years or older. The average age was 36 years. For every 100 females of all ages were 92.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 87.5 males.

The median income for a household was $ 36,150, and the median income for a family $ 44,861. Males had a median income of $ 31,902 versus $ 20,694 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,755. 13.5 % of the population and 11.0 % of families are below the poverty line. Of which 16.7 % have children under the age of 18 and 3.5 % of those 65 or older.
