East Palo Alto is a city in San Mateo County in the U.S. state of California, United States, with 32,200 inhabitants ( 2004). The geographic coordinates are: 37.47 ° N, 122.13 ° West. The metropolitan area has a size of 6.7 km ². East Palo Alto is located half way between San Francisco and San Jose and north of the city of Palo Alto.

It is its own city, and not as many assume, the eastern part of Palo Alto. It is also located in San Mateo County ( California). Other hand, Palo Alto is located in Santa Clara County. Both cities are separated by the San Francisquito Creek. In the west is the city of Menlo Park.

Population

The residents of East Palo Alto consist of about 70 % of Latinos and 25% of African Americans. East Palo Alto is at 18.8%, also the city with the most Pacific Islanders in the continental United States (excluding Hawaii)

In 1992, East Palo Alto was the American city with the highest murder rate per capita.
