The Eastern Mennonite University (in short: EMU ) is a Mennonite University in the USA. Support this private liberal arts University is the Mennonite Church USA, one of the historic peace churches. The EMU has its headquarters in Harrisonburg, Virginia, maintains a branch office in Lancaster ( Pennsylvania).

Worldwide known is the EMU probably best for their Center for Justice and Peacebuilding ( CJP ), especially with the graduate program conflict transformation. The CJP has over 3,000 graduates from 119 countries. The founder John Paul Lederach and Howard Zehr are considered internationally known experts in the field of conflict resolution and justice. In October 2011, the CJP alumna Leymah Gbowee was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

Every second student of Easter Mennonite University has no Mennonite background, while the majority of students committed to the Christian faith. In addition to the EMU, there are in North America, a number of other mennonitscher universities and colleges.
