Eberhard Georg Friedrich von Wächter

Eberhard Georg Friedrich von Wachter ( born February 1762 Balingen; † August 14, 1852 in Stuttgart ) was a German painter.

Life

Eberhard von Wachter, son of the bailiff, later Privy Council and Consistorialdirektors Friedrich Christoph Guardian and the Sibyl Regine born Harpprecht, attended from 1781 to 1783, the art department of the High Charles School in Stuttgart, was formed in the wake autodidactically before 1785-1792 painting by Jean -Baptiste Regnault, Jacques -Louis David and Antoine -Jean Gros studied in Paris.

In the same year of Eberhard Wächter went to Italy and met in Rome Asmus Jakob Carstens, among others, and Joseph Anton Koch together. In 1808 he moved to Vienna, where he worked as an illustrator for Cotta publishing products. In 1808 he returned to Stuttgart, where he was from 1810 to 1817 curator of the Royal Print Room.

Eberhard von Wachter - he was initially influenced by Nicolas Poussin and Jacques -Louis David - one of his paintings for antique and biblical motifs, including return of Telemachus, the most outstanding painters of German classicism. His main work is considered to Job and his friends, created 1797-1824, now in the State Gallery of Stuttgart.
