Description

Echinocereus subinermis grows singly or branching and often forming groups consisting of up to 10 drives. The gray-green to reddish, depressed spherical to cylindrical shoots are 4 to 33 inches long and have diameters of 4-15 centimeters. There are five to eleven sharp ribs present, which are tuberculate or straight edges. The up to four most upstanding central spines, which may be absent are colored light or dark. They have lengths of 0.1 to 2 centimeters. The up to ten slender, pale yellow to gray spines are 0.1 to 3 inches long. The spines can also be completely absent.

The funnel-shaped, fragrant flowers are bright yellow. They will appear in the vicinity of the shoot tips, 7 to 10 inches in length and capable diameter of 5 to 13 centimeters. The gray-green obovate fruits are spiny and contain white pulp. You rip open along.

Distribution, systematics and hazard

Echinocereus subinermis is common in the Mexican states of Sonora, Sinaloa, Chihuahua and Durango to the west of the Sierra Madre Occidental.
