Echinomastus mariposensis is a flowering plant in the genus Echinomastus from the cactus family ( Cactaceae ). English common names are " Lloyd's Mariposa Cactus" and " Mariposa Cactus".

Description

Echinomastus mariposensis grows individually with spherical to slightly cylindrical, densely spiny, blue-green stems that reach heights of growth 6-10 centimeters in diameters 4-6 centimeters. There are no ribs available. The slim tapered protuberances are up to 5 mm long. The 2-4 central spines are whitish, often darker in age and are 1.5 to 2 inches long. The lowest of them is down. The voltage applied to the drive surface 26 to 32 radiating whitish spines are 4-6 millimeters long.

The wide funnel- shaped pink flowers are up to 2.5 inches long and can reach diameter of 3 to 4 centimeters. The greenish fruits are spherical.

Distribution, systematics and hazard

Echinomastus mariposensis is distributed in the United States in the state of Texas and in the Mexican states of Coahuila and Nuevo Leon.

The first description was in 1945 by John Pinckney Hester.

Nomenclatural synonyms are Neolloydia mariposensis ( Hester ) LDBenson (1969 ), Echinocactus mariposensis ( Hester ) D.Weniger (1970, nom. Inval. ICBN article 33.3), Sclerocactus mariposensis ( Hester ) NPTaylor (1987) and Pediocactus mariposensis ( Hester ) Halda (1998).

In the Red List of Threatened Species IUCN, the type is known as " Least Concern ( LC) ," ie, than not led at risk.
