The Banat globe thistle ( Echinops bannaticus ) is a plant from the sunflower family ( Asteraceae).

Features

The Banat globe thistle is a perennial, herbaceous plant, possibly forming a Pleiokorm and reaches stature heights of 50 to 120 centimeters. The leaves are fiederspaltig, the sections have 1 to 2 lobes on both sides. The upper leaf surface is scattered glandular hairy and loose spinnwebig. The shell of the single head has a length of 14 to 20 millimeters. The outer bracts are spatulate and obtuse. The middle are lanceolate and have a straight, short lace. The stem is one to wenigköpfig. The collective heads have a diameter of 2.5 to 4 ( rarely to 6) inches. The crown is blue-gray.

The flowering period extends from July to September.

Dissemination

The Banat globe thistle occurs in the Balkans, in Romania and in the Crimea. It grows in woods and roadsides in the hilly stage. In Central Europe the species has been naturalized.

Use

The Banat globe thistle is often used as an ornamental plant.
