Heinrich Schrader (botanist)

Heinrich Adolf Schrader ( born January 1, 1767 in Alfeld near Hildesheim, † October 22, 1836 in Göttingen ) was a German physician and botanist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Schrad. ".

Life

1794 Schrader became the director of the Botanical Garden of Göttingen. Schrader was a medical doctor in 1795 in Göttingen, in 1803 associate professor and director of the University gardens and in 1809 full professor at the same place.

Schrader gave out many descriptive works, partly plants in Germany and partly plants from distant lands. Among these, there were several major works with colored pages as Sertum Hannoveranum ( 1795-98, together with Johann Christoph Wendland), Nova genera plantarum (1797 ), Flora germanica ( beginning 1806), Hortus Gottingensis (1809 ) and Systematic collection Cryptogamischer plants ( 1796-97 ).

He was from 1799 to 1803 editor of the "Journal of Botany " and the 1806-10 " New Journal of Botany ", which had existed since 1818 predecessor for the magazine " Flora". 1815 Schrader became a corresponding member of the Swedish Academy of Sciences.

The plant genera Schradera Vahl and Schraderanthus Averett have been named after him.
