École Biblique

Today École française de biblique et Archaeological Jérusalem mentioned means in 1890 under the name École Pratique d' Études Bibliques by P. Marie -Joseph Lagrange OP founded in the Dominican Convent of St. Étienne in Jerusalem. With papal recognition of the École dedicated biblique the scientific study of the Holy Land and of the biblical texts. To their specialty it was to brighten the reports of the Bible with archaeological, ethnological, historical and exegetical methods in the specific context of the biblical places. Researchers at the École biblique were instrumental in the edition of the scrolls from the Dead Sea.

The most famous publication of 1920, by the French state recognized research institution is the 1956 published in French Jerusalem Bible, a Bible translation that today international attention is because of their literary quality and text-critical rigor ( German 1968).

From the École biblique the journal is published Revue Biblique since 1892.
