Écueillé

Écueillé is a commune with 1306 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Indre in the Centre region. It belongs administratively to Châteauroux Arrondissement and Canton Écueillé whose capital it is.

Geography

The municipality is located in the countryside Bas- Berry, around 40 kilometers north- west of Châteauroux and 60 kilometers south-east of Tours on the border of the Indre- et -Loire. Neighboring communities of Écueillé are:

  • Luçay -le- Mâle the north and east,
  • Jeu - Maloches in the southeast,
  • Heugnes and Préaux in the south,
  • Villedômain in the southwest and
  • Nouans -les -Fontaines in the northwest.

The town itself is situated on the left bank of the river tourmente which drains in a northwesterly direction, and finally ends as a right tributary to the Indrois.

Transport links

The community is located off on regional roads. The local transport links made ​​by the department streets D8 ( of Issoudun direction hole ) and D13 (from Lucay -le- Mâle Châtillon -sur -Indre ).

The village lies on the railway line Train du Bas- Berry. It is a narrow gauge railway with 1 m track width, which is reversed by Argy after Lucay -le- Mâle and now operated for tourism only.
