Edmund Lesser

Life

His father was the later Reichsgerichtsrat Adolph Lesser. After studying medicine at the universities of Bonn, Berlin and Strasbourg, where he also earned his doctorate, he went for further technical training to Ferdinand von Hebra in Vienna, an internist Hermann Senator at the Berlin Kaiserin- Augusta- Hospital and dermatologist Oskar Simon in Wroclaw. In 1882 he qualified as a professor in Leipzig.

In 1889 he was appointed associate professor and director of the Dermatology Clinic in Bern. In 1896 he was appointed associate professor in Berlin and in 1911 the first professor of dermatology in Germany. At the same time, he was head of the Department of Skin and Venereal Diseases at the Charité.

In numerous essays, he commented on specific issues of skin and venereal diseases, particularly suitable for syphilis.

He was chairman of the Berlin Dermatological Society and co-editor of the journal " Archives of Dermatology and Syphilis ," Secretary-General and President of the German Society for Combating Venereal Diseases, and a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina (1891 ). He was entitled Secret Medizinalrat.

His tomb is located on the southwest Stahnsdorf.
