Edmund Yard Robbins

Edmund Yard Robbins ( born October 3, 1867 in Windsor, New Jersey, † May 30, 1942 in Princeton, New Jersey) was an American classical philologist.

Life

Edmund Yard Robbins studied at Princeton University, where he Bachelor 1889 and 1890 the master gained. From 1891 to 1894, he furthered his studies at the University of Leipzig. After his return he held as an instructor at Princeton University Greek courses from. In 1897 he was appointed Assistant Professor. After receiving his PhD Doctor of Letters with a unpublished thesis on the Greek orator Isaeus (1901 ) he was appointed Full Professor in 1902. In succession of S. Stanhope Orris, he was appointed in 1910 to Charles Ewing Professor of Greek Language and Literature. From 1921 to 1922 he was Annual Professor at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens. In 1936 he became Professor Emeritus.

Edmund Yard Robbins, a member of the American Philological Association since 1895, died on 30 May 1942. In his memory, the Edmund Y. Robbins Fellowships were established in 1949 in Classics.
