Édouard Deldevez

Edouard -Marie -Ernest Deldevez ( born May 31, 1817 in Paris, † November 6, 1897 ibid ) was a French composer, violinist and conductor.

Life and work

Deledevez, born 1817 in Paris, studied in 1825 at the Conservatoire de Paris in Fromental Halévy, François- Antoine and Henri Montan Berton Habeneck. In 1838 he won with the cantata La Vendetta the First Second Grand Prix de Rome.

He worked as a violinist in various orchestras in Paris and was established in 1852 with second conductor, in 1872 as a successor to Georges Hainl principal conductor of the Paris Opera. In addition, he was from 1872 to 1885 also conductor of the Société des concerts du Conservatoire. Since 1873, he taught a class for orchestral playing at the Conservatoire de Paris. In 1874 he became Chevalier of the Légion d' Honneur. In 1877 he resigned his post at the Paris Opera in 1885, he finished his teaching career at the Conservatoire.

1839 Deledevez published a collection of songs with piano accompaniment. Several of his ballets have been premiered at the Paris Opera. His most popular ballet Pasquita (1846 ) was later extended by Ludwig Minkus an act. He also composed chamber music, choral works, several symphonies and a requiem. He also published a four-volume collection of a variety of violin compositions by famous composers Corelli to Viotti, several musicological writings and two autobiographical books.
