Édouard Joseph Dantan

Édouard Joseph Dantan ( born August 26, 1848 in Paris, † July 7, 1897 in Villerville, Calvados ) was a French painter.

Life

Édouard Joseph Dantan was the son of the sculptor Antoine Laurent Dantan. At age 16, he attended the École des Beaux -Arts and entered the studio of Isidore Pils. Through his talent early in 1867 he received the order shown, to run for the tympanum of a chapel in Marnes a large painting of the Holy Trinity in wax colors. In 1869 he presented to the episode from the fall of Pompeii for the first time at the Paris Salon.

After the Franco-German War he painted scenes from next to the ancient mythology and history, inspired by the traditions of his family, repeated representations of sculpture studios. His academic painting style influenced by images found official recognition and some of his works were acquired by the state. Dantan was a member of the Salon jury of 1890, 1894 and 1895. Towards the end of his life arose views of his resort Villerville in Normandy.
