Eduard Janota

Eduard Janota ( born March 13, 1952, in Opava, Czechoslovakia, † 20 May, 2011 Radovesice, Czech Republic) was a Czech economist and politician. Between May 8, 2009 and July 13, 2010 he was finance minister in the transitional government, Jan Fischer.

Life

After studying at the University of Economics in Prague VSE he worked from 1976 as a Technical Officer of the Directorate General of the Czech State Insurance. In 1978, he joined the Ministry of Finance, where he was employed in the Department of State budget, which he became director in 1992. As of April 1999, he was Deputy Minister of Finance of the Czech Vlastimil Tlusty among ministers and Miroslav Kalousek. In May 2009 he became finance minister in the government of nonparty Jan Fischer.

From 1984 to 1989 Janota was a member of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia.

Between April 2003 and January 2006, he was chief of the Supervisory Board of CSA Airlines.

As of August 2010 he was a member and consultant to the National Economic Advisory Council of the Czech Government ( NERV ) and was Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board of ČEZ utility.

He died at the age of 59 years during a private tennis game after a heart attack.
