Eduard Petiška

Eduard Petiška ( born May 14, 1924 in Prague, † June 6, 1987 in Marianske Lazne ), was Czech writer and translator.

Life

1943 nad Labem Brandys after high school in, Petiška studied Comparative Sciences, Literature, History and German at the Philosophical Faculty of Charles University in Prague. In 1949 he received his doctorate and devoted himself full time shortly afterwards the literature. In 1977 he was one of the signatories of the Anti Charter. He died as a recognized and successful author, his literary estate passed to his son, a writer, who published under the pseudonym Edward Martin.

Works

Petiška specialized very early on children's books, had a way the problems that writers with the Communist regime to evade. From the German he translated especially the works of Goethe. As a poet, he was guided by František Halas. His tales and stories have a slight lyrical impact and deal mostly with generation problems. In addition, he published tales and legends collections.
