Eduard Uspensky

Eduard Nikolaevich Uspenski (Russian Эдуард Николаевич Успенский; born December 22, 1937 in Egoryevsk, Moscow Oblast ) is a Russian children's book author. He created, among other internationally renowned figures such as Cheburashka and Crocodile Gena.

Biography

After graduation Uspenski began studying engineering at the Moscow Aviation Institute. This he completed in 1961. Already during his studies he started to work as an author. Originally published Uspenski especially screenplays for animated films as well as humorous works, the latter partly in collaboration with the famous satirist Arkady Arkanow. A little later Uspensky wrote several children's poems were published among others in the prestigious cultural journal literature Gazeta.

1966 published Uspenski with Crocodile Gena and his friends his first major children's book that deals with the Crocodile Gena and Cheburashka friends and to this day is also one of his most successful works. In the next few years, several extensions of the story, including children's plays such as Cheburashka and his friends (1970 ) or Crocodile Gena followed on vacation (1974). However, a large part of the work of Uspenski take screenplays for animated films a, including several movies such as Crocodile Gena Cheburashka (1969 ) or Cheburashka Goes to School (1983).

In the 1980s, he also wrote a new series of children's books, which were filmed in a Zeichentrickflimserie under the name Prostokwaschino trilogy. Also, this series is one of his best known works. Until the 1990s, Uspensky wrote more than 60 screenplays - most of them to animated films, but also to two feature films. He also created several successful children's television programs. Some of his children's books including Crocodile Gena and his friends have been translated into 25 languages ​​.

Uspenski lives in Moscow. He runs his own book publishing and is also a board member of the political party civil power.
