Eduardo Alves da Silva ( born February 25, 1983 in Rio de Janeiro ), better known by his stage name Eduardo, is a Croatian football player with Brazilian roots. Since 2010 he is the Ukrainian giants Shakhtar Donetsk under contract.

Career

Clubs

In 1998, Eduardo from the Brazilian club CBF Nova Kennedy in the youth of Dinamo Zagreb. From 1999 to 2000, he spent two seasons at Bangu Atlético Clube in Rio de Janeiro. In 2000 he returned to the youth of Dinamo Zagreb. In the 2001 /02 season " Dudu " made ​​the breakthrough and came to Dinamo- professional squad.

From 2002 to 2003 Eduardo was again loaned, this time to Inter Zaprešić. In 2003 he returned to the Modri ​​, where he was a regular player ever since. After the retirement of Zoran Mamić in March 2007, Eduardo captain of Dinamo.

National

In 2002 he received the Croatian citizenship. Two years later he made his debut for the Croatian U-21 national team. His first game for the senior team, he played in a friendly match against Ireland in 2004. Despite his good performances in the Croatian league, he was not nominated for the 2006 World Cup. The breakthrough in the senior team, he managed then shortly after the World Cup and later became one of the major players in the successful qualification of Croatia to the finals of the European Football Championship 2008. With ten goals in twelve games he was behind the Ulsterman David Healy ( 13 goals) second top scorer in the European Championship qualifiers. After his serious injury on 23 February 2008, he returned on 1 April 2009 in a World Cup qualifier for South Africa 2010 against Andorra in the starting lineup of the national team back.
